Timbertop Camp for Youth / Kids with Learning Disabilities | Differences | Special Needs. Timbertop is a Wisconsin Overnight Summer Camp designed for Youth / Kids that have been identified by their School District as needing extra help for a learning disability and special needs. Specific learning disabilities may include: OHI, ADHD, ADD, LD, SLD and Dyslexia. Kids receiving support services such as Leveled Learning Intervention (LLI), Reading Support and Title 1, are also eligible.

Timbertop combines traditional camp activities with extra reading practice and special group activities that focus on dealing with learning differences in a structured daily setting. We are dedicated to providing a safe, fun and small group environment, which develops the spirit, mind and body of each individual.  Camp is a special place where youth and teens learn about the environment, develop positive values, make meaningful friendships, build positive peer relationships, learn new skills and increase self-confidence. History of Timbertop Camp for Youth with Learning Disabilities:
Timbertop was founded in 1967 and operated by the Association for Services for Learning Disabilities, a non-profit organization that sponsors camping for children with learning disabilities.  Timbertop Camp Inc. is registered as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and operated by a Volunteer Board of Directors for the purpose of providing a summer camp experience for youth with learning disabilities.

Camp Program Details:
Timbertop Camp for Youth with Learning Disabilities is a 6-7 day outdoor adventure where campers will learn outdoor skills and participate in activities designed to enhance their cooperative abilities and interpersonal relationships. An emphasis is placed on building self-esteem and how to make and keep friends. Whether building a campfire, cleaning the cabin or learning how to handle a canoe, each camper learns to share the responsibility of camp life.  The daily schedule includes: reading instruction, swim lessons, cabin activities, camp classes (such as nature exploration, canoeing, arts & crafts, archery, fishing, games and more), evening campfires, stargazing and all-camp programs.

WSAW TIMBERTOP CAMP NEWS STORY

Timbertop Camp is held at the Wisconsin Lions Camp in Rosholt Wisconsin nestled just 19 miles North East of Stevens Point in beautiful Central Wisconsin. 

Camp Leadership/Directors:
Timbertop Camp is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors.  Our volunteers/staff are selected for their leadership skills and their ability to provide a meaningful and safe camp experience for youth with Learning Disabilities. Volunteers/Staff have an understanding of youth with special needs and the unique potential of each child. There is a ratio of one adult to every six campers.

Rhoda Brooks “Wings”, (Camp Founder) holds an M.A. in Special Education and has way over 30 years of teaching and administrative experience. 

Nancy Reuter “Spirit” has worked with Timbertop since 1992.  She has taught in regular and special education for over 25 years.  She has a B.S. degree in Exceptional Education, a Masters in Education, and has a Reading Specialist License.

Pete Matthai “Timber” has been with Timbertop since 1991.  He has been the Camp Director Since 1994.  He has a B.S. degree from UWSP in Natural Resources – Youth Programming & Camp Management.

Tiffany Praeger aka “Gecko” has been in a leadership role with Timbertop for 11 years!  She has a degree in Camp Management from UW Stevens Point, and over 20 years of Camp and Environmental Education experience.  Tiffany’s Timbertop passion stems from our ability to give children and teens who struggle to fit in, a place to feel connected to nature, make friends, learn independence, and to feel confident in who they are!

JB Kotlowski “Magellan” has been part of the Timbertop Family for over 2 decades.  She works as registered nurse in the Stevens Point Area.
